I'm Hana Smith, Educator & Advocate
All students can excel and thrive.
Regardless of a label, all students have their unique strengths and weaknesses; some students struggle with maths, some struggle with social emotional skills, some struggle in a large classroom setting, and some can't see without glasses.
These difficulties are only limitations when we fail to provide appropriate accommodations and services. When working with any student, I take into consideration their specific needs and work with them, their family, and other specialists to identify and remove barriers that inhibit students from reaching their full potential.
Working carefully to follow a student's individualized education plan, I use differentiation and accommodations to create lessons, units, and an environmental space where all students with different needs can learn together.
Students do not come from cookie cutter molds, so neither should our lessons. Lessons should not expect all students to be starting at the same point, and the goal of a lesson will also differs for each student. My hope is for every student to make their own meaningful progress in my class.
